Stems from the noun ‘kirk’ which originally meant the Church Of Scotland. Presumably the article above refers to old Scottish superstitions and, in this context, to be ‘kirked’ means to be married in a church.

The word has a range of modern sexual meanings and is also used to mean ‘bent’ or ‘crooked’ (ie. not straight).
